Supply list for Art Quilting with Textile Painting Class


▪ original photo enlarged in color to 8 x 10 roughly
▪ freezer paper
▪ pins, paper scissors, fabric scissors
▪ cutting matt and small rotary cutter
▪ double sided Scotch tape
▪ lead pencil, Sharpie, Ballpoint pen in a contrasting color, i.e. red or purple anything but black
▪ Saral Transfer paper or Transdoodle in white for dark fabrics. Can be ordered from https://www.mistyfuse.com, . Or Amazon. This is a non-waxy marking paper that doesn’truin your fabric and is easy to remove.
▪ An iron and ironing surface- not your best iron, fusing can get messy sometimes.
▪ Teflon press sheet for fusing, or parchment paper will work too, to protect your iron, and surface.
▪ About 2 yards of Wonder Under or Misty Fuse, whichever you like better, I prefer Misty Fuse, it has a lighter hand when fused. Order online at https://www.mistyfuse.com/
▪ 2 large ziplock bags to save scraps and pattern pieces
Set of Inktense pencils, 24 colors

▪ NO SEWING MACHINE REQUIRED FOR THIS CLASS

Start with a photo or drawing of your subject
matter. It can be a landscape, cityscape, plant or
flower, anything that you want to explore and
inspires you. Let’s save people for another
class. Get out your travel photos for ideas. If
you use anyone else’s photo, make sure you
have their permission. Any questions about
subject matter, message me and we can talk
about it.

DO THIS AFTER THE FIRST CLASS:
Take your digital photo, make it into a
black and white photo, and upload it to https://
www.blockposters.com/ to enlarge and posterize
your design. From there you can print it out on
regular printer paper and tape together for your
master pattern. Do not go any larger than 3
pages wide. We don’t have time in class to
make a giant piece.

We will decide which background piece to use
during our initial planning class depending on
the subject matter of your design.

*Lightweight White muslin fabric for fusing on
top of large enough for the size of your pattern this
will be completely covered by your top
fabrics. You will be fusing onto it so none of it
will show. Your pattern lines will be marked
onto it first, so you know where each pattern
piece will go.
You may want to use a dark background fabric
to fuse onto- that’s fine also, it might be part of
your design and you may want some of it to
show. You will also be marking your pattern
lines onto this first so you know where each
pattern piece will go.

*Nice supply of hand-dyes, batiks or solids from
your stash in a large range of values, i.e. very
dark all the way to very light. You can never
have enough. We will discuss fabric choices during class.
